CAVINO HISTORY

Cavino was founded in 1958 in Aigio by Konstantinos Anastasiou and Ioannis Douskas.

It was originally a winery, but it very soon became a distillery too.

Aigio, the city where the vision of creating a modern winery – distillery was conceived, is located in a unique landscape of vineyards. The slopes of Aigialia combine with the mountains and the sea in a unique way to form a special microclimate.

Cavino primarily uses indigenous grape varieties such as Roditis, Lagorthi, Sideritis, Agiorgitiko, Mavro Kalavrytino and, of course, the famous Mavrodaphne. However, it also successfully grows international varieties such as Sauvignon blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Today, Cavino exports more than 75% of its production of wine and ouzo. The company has followed technological developments closely, and in the last 10 years has made significant investments in modernising production equipment and bottling lines and in increasing the number of air-conditioned storage rooms.

Today, Cavino has two bottling lines for wines and another two bottling lines for spirits (ouzo, tsipouro, brandy). It also has state-of-the-art harvesting and grape processing equipment and 5,000 m² of air-conditioned storage rooms.

The company is ISO, BRC and IFS certified at the highest level which ensures high-quality production.

In 1999 the main shareholders, Yannis and Theodore Anastasiou, brought an equally important vision to life – the creation of an estate that produces very high quality, world class wines. In this way, the Domain Mega Spileo estate was born. The estate has a 10 hectare vineyard which soon gave the markets of Greece and abroad unique high quality wines from the vineyard of the Mega Spileo Monastery (Grand Cave).

The vineyard is in a unique terroir in the wine-growing are of Aigialeia, 800 meters above sea level in the gorge of Kalavrita.

Cavino sets very high standards of quality and consistency and its performance always justifies its leading position in the winemaking industry.
Its high-end facilities, high-quality oenological and wine-making team, experienced production staff, excellent logistics infrastructure and strong sales and marketing department allow Cavino to look towards the future confidently and to be completely ready to tackle new challenges.

In 2009 Cavino was recognised as the best Greek winery by the reputable International Wine & Spirits Competition UK. The Oenological and Winegrowing team with its continuous innovations with varieties, winemaking, ageing, etc., constantly gives new impetus to the company and helps to plan its future.

Our main goal and vision is to promote Greek vineyards both in Greece and abroad, especially the wine-growing region of Aigialia, and to continue our commitment to producing quality wines.

At Cavino we produce wines which are distributed throughout Greece and in 50 countries all over the world.

Wines that have won awards in international competitions judged by distinguished wine writers and wine tasters.
